Jewish Cemetery in Sośnicowice

Sośnicowice
About Jewish Cemetery in Sośnicowice

The smallest surviving Jewish cemetery in the Silesian Voivodeship, with isolated fragments of matzevot.

The Jewish cemetery in Sośnicowice is a small cemetery, founded in 1829. It is regarded as the smallest surviving Jewish cemetery in the Silesian Voivodeship.

What remains of the cemetery

In the time of the Third Reich the cemetery was devastated. Only isolated fragments of matzevot, that is Jewish gravestones, survive to this day. The place is therefore above all a trace of the former Jewish community in Sośnicowice, not an extensive necropolis.

Practical information

  • Village: Sośnicowice, Gliwice County. Details of the location are worth checking with the Town and Municipal Office.
  • Access to the cemetery grounds and their condition must be checked before a visit; at a Jewish cemetery quiet and respect for the burial place are required.
