A granite statue of the astronomer holding a globe, unveiled in 1964 next to the planetarium.
The Monument to Nicolaus Copernicus stands in the Silesian Park in Chorzów, right next to the Silesian Planetarium. It is a granite sculpture by Jerzy Bandura, unveiled in 1964.
The astronomer stands on a round platform, his face turned towards the sky, and holds a globe in his hand. The whole is about 4 m high, and the arrangement of the figure with the platform recalls a sundial. The monument formed a coherent architectural whole with the planetarium buildings, and its style is classed as Socialist Realism. The design earned the sculptor the Artistic Prize of the City of Kraków in 1955.
