Events in Silesia in one calendar: concerts at NOSPR, plays in Cieszyn and Tychy, comedy and films in Katowice, Bielsko-Biała and Żywiec.

The calendar covers Katowice and the whole voivodeship: large halls in the conurbation, cultural centres in smaller towns and intimate cinemas. If you want to know what is on in Silesia today, start by choosing a date. If you are planning ahead, choose a type of event or a city.

What is on in Silesia today and how can you check?

The date filter gives the quickest answer: pick a day and the list narrows to everything happening across the region. The type filter leaves only concerts, plays, comedy or films, and a city page limits the choice to venues close to you. These three approaches can be combined when there is a lot to choose from.

Events sold through ticketing services have a button leading to the sale. In smaller centres tickets are also sometimes sold at the door and the organiser gives the details, so check the event card before setting off.

Where can you go to concerts in Silesia?

Music is the biggest part of the calendar and its main address is Katowice. The NOSPR Katowice (Sala koncertowa) and NOSPR Katowice (Sala kameralna) halls of the national radio orchestra's home appear most often, but just as much goes on outside the regional capital. The full music scene is on the concerts and music page.

In Katowice, as well as the NOSPR halls, Teatr & Klub muzyczny Old Timers Garage, Energy2000 Katowice and the programme of the Katowice Miasto Ogrodów institution appear often. For classical music in the north of the voivodeship choose Filharmonia Częstochowska, and in Częstochowa also the Akademickie Centrum Kultury - Klub Politechnik. In Bielsko-Biała concerts have a home at Cavatina Hall and the Bielskie Centrum Kultury.

Zabrze has the House of Music and Dance, a modernist building from 1959. Its auditorium is among the largest in Poland and known for good acoustics. In Sosnowiec Sala Widowiskowo-Koncertowa MUZA appears often, and in Gliwice a venue called Dobry Zbeer.

Where can you see plays and go to the theatre?

Theatre is the second-largest part of the calendar, and stages are spread across the whole voivodeship, from Cieszyn to Dąbrowa Górnicza. Many are in historic buildings, so an evening out is also a chance to see the architecture. Current productions are collected on the theatre in Silesia page.

In Cieszyn the Adam Mickiewicz Theatre on Plac Teatralny occupies a 1910 building designed by the Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer. It seats 630 and belongs to the European Route of Historic Theatres. Teatr Mały in Tychy works quite differently: it is a receiving house without its own company that presents visiting groups, with an art gallery alongside.

The socialist-realist Palace of Culture of the Dąbrowa Basin in Dąbrowa Górnicza combines a theatre hall with an arthouse cinema and gallery in one listed building on Plac Wolności. In Katowice the calendar also lists Scena Gliwicka 120 and Pałac Młodzieży (sala teatralna).

Where can you see comedy and spend a lighter evening?

Comedy has a large audience in the region and a surprising number of addresses, including outside the biggest cities. Shows are spread across many halls, so it is better to search by city than by club name. All dates are gathered on the comedy and cabaret in Silesia page.

Outside the biggest cities the calendar often lists centres such as Pszczyńskie Centrum Kultury, Raciborskie Centrum Kultury, Miejskie Centrum Kultury in Żywiec and Miejski Ośrodek Kultury in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. In Jaworzno it is the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury im. Jaworzniaków. If you would rather not travel to Katowice, check first what is on at a hall like this in your own town.

Where can you find an arthouse cinema?

Katowice has the most showings in the calendar, with several cinemas and separately named screens. Outside the regional capital, screenings take place in town cinemas and cultural centres. The available titles are on the cinema in Silesia page.

In central Katowice the Rialto Cinema-Theatre on Św. Jana Street is an arthouse cinema run by Silesia Film, over a century old, which also hosts concerts, plays and meetings. The calendar also lists the screens Kino Kosmos - NOSTROMO and Kino Kosmos - SOLARIS, as well as Kino Światowid (Sala Królestwo) and Kino Światowid (Sala Ukryte), so check the name of the room beside each date.

Outside Katowice, frequent addresses are Kino Janosik in Żywiec and Kino Bałtyk in Racibórz, and in Dąbrowa Górnicza a cinema operates in the Palace of Culture of the Dąbrowa Basin.

Which halls are worth seeing for the building alone?

Several stages in the region are historic monuments in their own right, so an evening play or screening can double as a short visit. This applies especially to buildings from the early 20th century and post-war cultural centres. It is worth arriving a little early to look around the interiors.

Rialto: a cinema from 1913

The Rialto Cinema-Theatre has been running since January 1913. It was built as the Kammerlichtspiele by master builder Martin Tichauer with the merchant Berthold Kochmann on what was then Johannstrasse. Today the classicist façade on Św. Jana Street fronts a hall run by the Silesia Film institution, part of the regional government.

Cieszyn: the work of Viennese architects

The theatre on Plac Teatralny is a five-storey listed building. Fellner and Helmer were the authors of 48 theatres across Europe, and the idea for the one in Cieszyn came in 1902 from councillor Franz Barth, who organised the Theatre Building Society. Even a short performance is therefore a chance to see a stage from this European family.

Post-war cultural centres: Zabrze, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Tychy

The House of Music and Dance was built between 1954 and 1959 to a design by Zygmunt Majerski and Julian Duchowicz, and its hall has nearly two thousand seats. The Palace of Culture of the Dąbrowa Basin went up between 1951 and 1958 to a design by Zbigniew Rzepecki, who also planned the interiors, and it is a monumental example of socialist realism. In Tychy the Teatr Mały building dates from 1962-1965, designed by Wacław Jaciów with a mosaic by Janusz Włodarczyk, and was originally a workplace cultural centre for the Ziemowit colliery.

Świerklaniec: a stage in a former residence

Kawaler's Palace is a red-brick guest house of the Henckel von Donnersmarck family, built in the early 20th century to a design by Ernst von Ihne, an architect linked to the imperial court in Berlin. It is among the best-preserved buildings of the whole residential complex, and a walk in the historic park goes well with an evening event.

Which cities outside Katowice have the most events?

After events in Katowice, the most is happening in a few centres with different profiles. You do not have to travel to the regional capital to pick a concert or play, and each city page shows which kinds of events dominate.

Smaller places are worth following too. In Świerklaniec, events take place at venues including Kawaler's Palace, a neo-Baroque guest house in a historic park. Jaworzno, Rybnik, Zawiercie and Jastrzębie-Zdrój also have their own programmes, which are easy to check without scrolling through the whole voivodeship.

What is happening in the smaller towns of the region?

Beyond the big centres the calendar covers dozens of smaller towns, where everything usually revolves around one cultural centre or hall. Such lists are short, so they take a minute to read, and an evening close to home often beats the trip to the regional capital.

In the north of the conurbation check Tarnowskie Góry, Nakło Śląskie, Radzionków and Piekary Śląskie, and in the middle of it Bytom, Ruda Śląska and Świętochłowice. To the east, on the Dąbrowa Basin side, Dąbrowa Górnicza and Mysłowice have their own pages, and near the upland Myszków.

In the west and south, look at the pages for Wodzisław Śląski, Czerwionka-Leszczyny, Łaziska Górne and Czechowice-Dziedzice. On the north-western edge of the voivodeship is Lubliniec. Dates there can be few, so it is worth checking the town page a few days before you plan to go.

Festivals, sport and events for children

The smaller parts of the calendar are useful when you are after something specific. They hold fewer entries than music or theatre, so they are easy to read in full.

Events for children bring together options for the youngest from across the region. Festivals and sports events have pages of their own. Art lovers will find exhibitions, although many permanent displays are described separately among the attractions.

Frequently asked questions

What is on in Silesia today?

Choose today's date in the calendar filter to see every event in the region for that day. You can narrow it down by type of event or by city page.

Where can you buy tickets for events in Silesia?

Events with online tickets have a "Buy ticket" button leading to the service selling them. If there is no button, the organiser explains how to buy on the event card.

Which Silesian cities have the most concerts and plays?

Katowice leads, followed by Bielsko-Biała, Częstochowa, Żywiec, Zabrze and Sosnowiec. Tychy, Gliwice, Chorzów and Racibórz also host many events.

Where can you go to a concert in Katowice?

The NOSPR halls, the Rialto Cinema-Theatre and Teatr & Klub muzyczny Old Timers Garage appear most often in the calendar. The events in Katowice page shows every address and date.

Which theatre in Silesia is worth visiting?

For the building alone, choose the Adam Mickiewicz Theatre in Cieszyn from 1910. In Dąbrowa Górnicza a stage operates in the socialist-realist Palace of Culture of the Dąbrowa Basin, and in Tychy Teatr Mały hosts visiting companies.

Does the calendar cover small towns as well?

Yes. Beyond the big centres, Lubliniec, Myszków, Nakło Śląskie and Łaziska Górne are among the towns with their own pages. There are fewer events there, so the list is easy to read in full.
