An impresario theatre in Tychy in a building from 1962-1965, with an art gallery and the “Andromeda” Culture Arcade.
Teatr Mały (the Small Theatre) in Tychy is a municipal cultural institution at ks. kard. Hlonda 1. It has no acting company of its own and operates as an impresario theatre: it presents performances by invited companies. The building is adapted for people with disabilities.
The building was erected in 1962-1965 to a design by Wacław Jaciów. The mosaic was designed by Janusz Włodarczyk and made in cooperation with Franciszek Wyleżuch.
The building was opened in 1965 as a works culture centre at the “Ziemowit” mine, and later of the Small-Car Factory. In 1991 the building became the property of the town, after renovation in 1994 it began to serve the Municipal Cultural Centre, and since 1 January 2000 it has operated as a municipal cultural institution.
The theatre includes the “Andromeda” Culture Arcade and the “Obok” Municipal Art Gallery. Recurring events include the Tychy Press Photo press photography competition (February-March) and the Connoisseur’s Theatre.
The Tychy Theatre Meetings had their last, 43rd edition in 2016, and from 2017 they were replaced by the TopOFFFestival. The Silesian Guitar Autumn, held in November, has been organised at the Tychy Media Library since 2016.
In the immediate vicinity, about 300 m away, lies the Tychy City Museum, and about 600 m away the Tyskie Browarium. Further on, 2.8 km as the crow flies, is the Tychy Water Park.
