About Manor House in Turzyn

A brick manor house from the first half of the 19th century in Turzyn, with a porch on six columns and a park on the Białka.

The manor house in Turzyn is a single-storey manor from the first half of the 19th century, entered in the heritage register together with its park. It stands in a village in Częstochowa County, on the Białka river. Since 2007 it has belonged to private owners and has been restored.

History of the manor

In the 16th century Turzyn belonged to the Otwinowski family, then to the Zwierkowski family. In 1870 the estate was taken over by Adolf Ludwik Schütz, who ran the farm in such a way that a well-developed manor and park complex came into being. After the death of Zofia Schütz in 1928, wife of Adolf Kozłowski, the estate passed to the Kozłowski family. In 1943 the painter Adam Kozłowski, later a Benedictine abbot in Tyniec, was born here. In the 1960s the manor house was renovated and taken over by a primary school.

Architecture and park

The manor is built of fired brick, plastered, on a rectangular plan. It is distinguished by a tall gable roof with hipped ends, whose height is two and a half times the height of the building, and it is the only manor of this kind in the area. The seven-bay front elevation has a spacious porch with six columns and a triangular tympanum. The park covers 2.78 ha, and the manor stands at its highest point. Among the trees that grew in it were ash, maple, pedunculate oak and walnut, and the oldest trees are about 150 years old.

Nearby lies Lelów with its synagogue, about 2 km away.
