Roadside Shrine in Ujsoły

Księdza Prałata Piotrowskiego, Ujsoły
About Roadside Shrine in Ujsoły

A brick shrine from the first half of the 18th century, extended in 1866, by the main road through Ujsoły.

The shrine on ks. prał. Józefa Piotrowskiego Street in Ujsoły, also known as the “U Koconia” shrine, is a single-storey brick building entered in the heritage register. It dates from the first half of the 18th century.

History

The shrine was built in the first half of the 18th century and extended in 1866. An important local event is linked with it: the Mass celebrated here on 31 August 1913 is regarded as the first in Ujsoły. It was celebrated by the then dean, the parish priest of the parish of St Joseph. The patron of the shrine is the Heart of Jesus.

Interior and location

Inside stands a single altar. As former furnishings, a wooden classicist sanctuary lamp 49 cm high is described, decorated with four angels with candlesticks and a vase-shaped vessel with carved flames. It is not known whether the lamp is still in place. The shrine stands by the former voivodeship road, near the fire station, and a few hundred metres away rises the Church of St Joseph in Ujsoły, the village's parish church.
