About Church of Christ the King in Bytom-Stolarzowice

A parish church in Bytom-Stolarzowice from 1928, with Masses in Polish and German.

The Church of Christ the King stands in the Bytom district of Stolarzowice and is a parish church of the Diocese of Gliwice. It was built in 1928, within a single year.

When and how it was built

The first design was made in 1927 by the Bytom architect Theodor Ehl, but it was rejected. The design by Artur Reck, a building councillor from Opole, was carried out. Construction, led through the efforts of Father Jan Wycisk, began on 1 May 1928 and was completed at the end of the same year. The consecration took place on 22 September 1929 and was performed by the Wrocław auxiliary bishop Walenty Wojciech.

Bells and interior

The original bells were requisitioned in 1942 for the German army. New ones, from the Niestrój foundry in Godula, were blessed in 1957. The interior is bright and spacious, and the altar and wall figures were made by the Bytom sculptor Schink. In the altar portal rest the relics of Saints Felicissimus and Salvator.

Masses are held in the church in Polish and German. Renovation was carried out in 1996, and the roof was repaired in 2009.
