Evangelical Church in Bażanowice

Bażanowice
About Evangelical Church in Bażanowice

Evangelical Augsburg church from 1978-1981 in Bażanowice, built as a catechetical house on a polygonal plan.

The Evangelical church in Bażanowice is a modern Evangelical Augsburg church belonging to the parish in Cieszyn. It was built in the late 1970s and early 1980s, because the village had no earlier place of worship for local Evangelicals.

From a catechetical house to a church

The initiative came at the turn of 1977 and 1978, when a woman from the village donated land to the parish. Work began on 3 June 1978, and the foundation stone was laid on 10 September of that year. The construction lacked materials, so help from Western countries was used. The room for religious instruction was handed over on 16 September 1979, the first service took place on 5 June 1980, and the church was consecrated on 13 September 1981.

The building

The church was designed by Stanisław Kwaśniewicz and Karol Gaś, and its structure by Henryk Raszka. The building has two storeys and a volume of 2,900 m³, stands on the plan of a regular polygon and has a reinforced concrete frame. On the ground floor is a worship hall for 180 people, and below it a catechetical hall and a meeting room. The central heating chimney also serves as the bell tower.
