A parish church in Kokotek, a district of Lubliniec, which grew out of a chapel set up in 1940 in a former restaurant.
The parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen stands in Kokotek, a district of Lubliniec, and belongs to the Lubliniec deanery of the Diocese of Gliwice. The church grew out of a chapel set up in a former restaurant building.
The chapel was adapted by the parish priest of St Nicholas's parish in Lubliniec: the nave was set up in the main room of the former restaurant, and the sacristy was made from the bar and the back rooms. The first Mass was held on 26 December 1940. The chapel was dedicated to St Elizabeth, after a figure of the saint brought from the garrison church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Lubliniec.
Efforts to build a church began in 1951, but the authorities refused permission, among other reasons because scout camps and children's holiday camps were organised in Kokotek. In 1960 the first resident priest settled here and rebuilt the chapel into a larger church with a presbytery. The extended building was blessed on 21 May 1961 and given the dedication of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen. An independent parish was established in 1980, and since 2008 the church has been looked after by the Oblates.
