A modernist church from 1937-1944 with an organ of 2,581 pipes and stained glass.
The Church of St Andrew Bobola stands in Leszczyny, a district of Czerwionka-Leszczyny, and belongs to the Dębieńsko deanery of the Archdiocese of Katowice. It is a modernist church whose construction began in 1937 to a design by Rafał Szymura.
The first church, dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity, was built probably in 1594-1606 in log construction. In 1981 it was moved to Palowice, and in 2006 the foundations and three gates were reproduced on its former site.
Construction was begun on the initiative of the parish priest Fr Adolf Pojda. Until 1939 the building was in a shell state, and the interior was adapted for liturgy during the occupation; in 1942 a rose-window stained glass brought from Quedlinburg was installed. The consecration took place on 16 July 1944. In 1945 the church was damaged by artillery fire, and the damage was repaired by 1948.
Local devotion surrounds the images of Our Lady of Licheń and of Divine Mercy. The statue of Our Lady of Fatima from 1955 was crowned in 2003. From the altar of 1948 the sculptures of St Andrew Bobola, St Hyacinth and St Stanislaus have survived. The organ has three manuals, 41 stops and 2,581 pipes; it was built from the time of the war until 1993. The church holds relics of St Francis of Assisi.
