A Neo-Baroque church in the convent and hospital complex of the Sisters of St Elizabeth in Cieszyn, built in 1900-1903.
The Church of St Elizabeth of Hungary in Cieszyn is part of the Neo-Baroque convent complex of the Sisters of St Elizabeth. The church stands in the middle of the main building, with the wings of the former hospital on either side.
The complex was built in 1900-1903. The builders were Antoni Jonkisch and Jan Nossek, and the design was prepared by Jan Müller. The front part houses the convent with the church in the middle, and next to it the hospital in two side wings. Today part of the building houses a medical clinic.
Inside there are two altars. The main one holds statues of St Elizabeth surrounded by the poor, St Hedwig and St Louis, and the side one paintings of St Anthony and of Our Lady with St Francis. The interior is decorated with stained-glass windows and statues of saints on the pillars under the choir. On the facade, in the pediment, is an image of Christ the Good Shepherd, and in the niches of the side elevations stand figures of saints.
An independent parish at the convent was established in 1980. After a thorough renovation the church was consecrated again in 2010.
