Parish church in Zabrze-Makoszowy, converted from a former school and renovated several times because of mining damage.
The Church of Sts John and Paul the Martyrs stands in the Makoszowy district of Zabrze and belongs to the Kochłowice deanery of the Archdiocese of Katowice. The present church is a converted building of a former school.
The church was consecrated on 28 September 1919, and a curacy was established there at that time. The parish was established in 1925. Because Makoszowy lies in a mining area, the building was repeatedly renovated because of mining damage: first in 1951, when the walls were anchored, and then in 1965-1972.
The largest renovation took place in 1982-1983. The foundations were reinforced with reinforced concrete, the cracked walls were taken down to half their height and rebuilt, and a new roof and tower were built. When the work was finished, a bishop consecrated the church again on 11 December 1983. The top of the tower was rebuilt in 2014.
