About Church of St Joseph in Dąbrowa Górnicza

A modernist parish church from 1938-1948, with a tall openwork tower and stained glass by Zofia Baudouin de Courtenay.

The Church of St Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, stands at Marii Konopnickiej 62 in Dąbrowa Górnicza and is a parish church. It is a modernist church, built in 1938-1948 to a design by Józef Jaworski.

Construction

Work was interrupted by the Second World War. In 1940, although the church was not finished, the walls were blessed by Teodor Kubina. Construction resumed in 1945 and was completed three years later. The parish was erected in 1952, and the church was consecrated on 8 May 1960.

Architecture and stained glass

The church has a reinforced-concrete structure with brick infill. It has a single nave on a rectangular plan, with a narrower chancel closed on three sides. The main entrance is accentuated by glazing and a tall, openwork tower. The windows contain stained glass designed by Zofia Baudouin de Courtenay.
