A wooden church from 1675 with Baroque furnishings, part of the Pszczyna loop of the Wooden Architecture Trail.
The Church of St Catherine in Pielgrzymowice is a wooden church from 1675, entered in the heritage register. It lies on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesian Voivodeship, in its Pszczyna loop.
The first wooden church in Pielgrzymowice was built at the end of the 13th century, and in the 16th and 17th centuries it belonged to Protestants for a long time. From 1654 it was Catholic again. The present church was built in 1675, probably funded by Karol Henryk Paczyński, and was built by the carpenters Andrzej Werner and Błażej Duda. The tower was added only in 1746. At the beginning of the 20th century, in 1908-1911, the church was enlarged and its original silhouette changed.
The building is of log construction, oriented, on a brick foundation. The walls are clad with boards and the whole is covered with shingles. In the west stands a square tower of post construction with sloping walls, and on the ridge of the nave a Baroque turret for the ridge bell. Most of the interior furnishings are Baroque.
It is about 7 kilometres to Strumień, where the Baroque Church of St Barbara in Strumień stands. In nearby Kończyce Małe you will find the Castle in Kończyce Małe.
