Cultural centre in an Art Nouveau villa from 1910 on ul. Franciszkańska in Katowice-Ligota, with a library and festivals.
The "Ligota" Municipal Cultural Centre is located at ulica Franciszkańska 33 in the Ligota-Panewniki district of Katowice. It is a cultural institution operating in the building of a former villa from the early 20th century.
The villa was built in 1910 in the Art Nouveau style for the director of the Ligota Chemical Factory. It became an independent cultural institution under a resolution of the City Council of 28 April 1987. In 1991-1993 the building was renovated and gained a west wing.
The building houses branch no. 5 of the Municipal Public Library in Katowice, together with a department for young people. The centre organises the Bolesław Szabelski Voivodeship Festival of Young Virtuosos "Ligoton" (since 2009) and the Hawthorn Blossom Festival (since 1995). Nearby stands the Basilica of St Louis the King and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
