A branch of the Museum of Cieszyn Silesia in the gardener's cottage of a manor complex, where the writer Zofia Kossak-Szatkowska lived.
The Zofia Kossak-Szatkowska Museum in Górki Wielkie is a biographical museum, a branch of the Museum of Cieszyn Silesia in Cieszyn. It presents collections connected with the novelist Zofia Kossak-Szatkowska. It is housed in the so-called gardener's cottage in an 18th-century manor complex that belonged to the Kossak family before the war.
Zofia Kossak-Szatkowska lived in this house in 1957-1968. The museum was established in 1970, when the writer's husband, Major Zygmunt Szatkowski, began to open the house to visitors. At first only the dining room and the study were shown. In January 1973 the house became part of the Cieszyn museum, and Zygmunt Szatkowski became its curator. In 2002 the display was extended to include the kitchen and the bedroom.
In the museum you will see objects connected with the writer's life and work: photographs, family mementos, manuscripts and typescripts, and the Righteous Among the Nations medal. There are also numerous paintings, including works by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz and Czesław Kuryatto.
In 1993 paintings by Wojciech and Juliusz Kossak were stolen from the museum. Most of the works were never recovered.
