Palace in the centre of Siemianowice Śląskie, the former residence of the Henckel von Donnersmarck family, with Baroque and Neoclassical parts.
The palace on Chopina Street in Siemianowice Śląskie is called the palace of the Donnersmarcks or of the Mieroszewskis. It is a complex with Baroque and Neoclassical parts, entered in the heritage register, which changed owners and functions over the centuries.
Construction was begun in the 17th century by the Mieroszewski family of the Ślepowron coat of arms. In 1692 Stanisław Mieroszewski sold the estate to Bogusław Hunter von Grandon, and in 1718 the palace was bought by Juliana Maksymiliana Coob von Neyding. After her death it was inherited by her son Karol Henckel von Donnersmarck, and it became the family's permanent residence only under his son Łazarz. In 1778-1789 a new west wing was added, in 1807 the palace was plundered during the Napoleonic wars, and around 1830 the chapel and façade were rebuilt. At the end of the 19th century the Donnersmarcks sold the complex. In 1926-1932 Józef Kiedroń lived here, director of the Upper Silesian United Królewska and Laura Steelworks, previously a minister in the government of Władysław Grabski.
The oldest part is Baroque, with a Polish broken roof. The east wing, Neoclassical, dates from around 1830 and incorporates an earlier gate tower. The complex also includes two outbuildings, a gate, two farm buildings and a chapel; the south outbuilding of around 1850 was pulled down in 1934. During the Second World War the Germans converted the reception rooms into offices, which largely destroyed the historic interiors. The town took over the complex from the mine in 1990.
The palace has been adapted for public and service purposes. As of July 2021 it housed a restaurant brewery, and exhibitions, vernissages and art workshops were planned. The extent of public access is worth checking before a visit.
Siemianowice lies in the centre of the Upper Silesian conurbation. Closest, about three kilometres away, stretches the Silesian Park, and next to it the Silesian Zoological Garden. It is about four kilometres to the Prezydent Shaft.
