Monument to Gabriela Thun Hohenstein

The monument to Gabriela Thun Hohenstein in Kończyce Wielkie takes the form of a small bench: you can sit next to the bronze figure of the countess. It was unveiled on 27 October 2019.

The monument

The sculpture was made by Karol Badyna, a Kraków sculptor and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts there. The bronze figure is life-size. A health trail dedicated to the countess has been laid out around the monument and leads towards the palace.

Who Gabriela Thun Hohenstein was

She was the last owner of the palace and estate in Kończyce Wielkie, known locally as the "Good Lady of Kończyce". She supported healthcare, helping among others the Silesian Hospital in Cieszyn, and cared for young mothers and children. For her work she was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta.
