About Palace Complex in Borynia

A Neoclassical palace of the 18th century in Borynia, today a hotel with a restaurant, surrounded by a historic park with a 300-year-old oak.

The palace in Borynia, a district of Jastrzębie-Zdrój, is a Neoclassical manor house from the second half of the 18th century, built with strong late Baroque influences. Today it houses a hotel with conference facilities and a restaurant, and it is surrounded by a historic park.

History of the palace

The building was erected for Jan von Schlutterbach. The author of the design was probably Samuel Fryderyk Ilgner or one of his collaborators, or, according to another hypothesis, Wilhelm Pusch. In the interwar period it belonged to the Ledóchowski family, and after the parcelling of the estate it was bought by Elżbieta Siódmiok.

During the occupation a kindergarten operated here, and in 1945 the palace was devastated. After renovation it housed a primary school, in operation in 1960-1985. Later it was used by the offices of companies and organisations, and then the building belonged to the Jastrzębie Coal Company. In 2010-2013 a new owner carried out a renovation and turned the building into a hotel.

Architecture and park

The palace has two storeys, is built of brick and stands on a rectangular plan. The first-floor windows are closed by a semicircular arch, the roof is mansard, covered with slate tiles, and above the entrance is a cartouche with the von Schlutterbach coat of arms. In the palace park grows a pedunculate oak more than 300 years old, with a girth of 432 cm.
