Obelisk in Kościuszko Park unveiled in 2015, commemorating eight deceased mountaineers of the Katowice Mountaineering Club.
The Alpinists' Monument is an obelisk in Kościuszko Park in Katowice, unveiled on 28 October 2015. It commemorates eight members of the Katowice Mountaineering Club who died in the mountains, and its author is Bogumił Burzyński.
The list includes: Henryk Furmanik (1974), Andrzej Hartman (1983), Rafał Chołda (1985), Jan Nowak (1988), Mirosław Dąsal (1989), Jerzy Kukuczka (1989), Tomasz Kowalski (2013) and Artur Hajzer (2013). The years of death are given in brackets.
The monument was funded by the Katowice Mountaineering Club and the city. The money came from the public fundraiser “Pasja Gór” (Passion for the Mountains) and from a grant from the city budget.
The obelisk is in the Brynów-Osiedle Zgrzebnioka district, in Tadeusz Kościuszko Park, close to the Church of St Michael the Archangel. It combines well with a walk through the park.
