About Church of Christ the King in Świerklaniec

A parish church from 1989-1994 in the centre of Świerklaniec; a bell tower is all that remains of the wooden church.

The Church of Christ the King in Świerklaniec is the main church of the parish of Christ the King in the Żyglin deanery of the Gliwice diocese. The present brick building was constructed in 1989-1994 to replace a wooden church from 1929.

Two churches

The first, wooden church began to be built on 16 October 1929 and was consecrated on 22 December of that year; according to a study of wooden churches it was built by the master builder Jan Szycha. The parish was established on 1 May 1931. The wooden church was dismantled in 1999, and on its site next to the new church stands a bell tower with three bells.

Permission for the new church was obtained on 4 February 1986, the design was approved in December 1988, and construction began in 1989. According to the municipality the designer was the architect Stanisław Kwaśniewicz; another study names Norbert Wielki. The church was consecrated on 20 November 1994 by Jan Wieczorek, Bishop of Gliwice. The interior decoration was entrusted to the artist Zygmunt Brachmański.

Nearby

The second church of the parish is the historic former castle church of the Donnersmarcks in the park in Świerklaniec. In the area you can also see Lake Chechło-Nakło.
