Mikołów
About Church of Our Lady Mother of the Saviour in Mikołów

A parish church in Mikołów, built in 1931-1933 as a theatre and sports hall of the Salvatorians.

The Church of Our Lady Mother of the Saviour (Najświętsza Maryja Panna Matka Zbawiciela) on Salwatorianów Square in Mikołów began as a theatre and sports hall. Today it is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Mikołów deanery.

From hall to church

The brick building in a contemporary style was built in 1931-1933 as the theatre and sports hall of the Salvatorian monastery and grammar school. After the Second World War the interior was turned into a chapel. The parish was established on 15 January 1951 by Bishop Stanisław Adamski, and the first parish priest was Fr Wojciech Olszówka.

The interior

The church has one nave and three altars. In 1957 two side altars were added: of St Barbara and of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with a figure of St Margaret Mary Alacoque. In the chancel since 1967 there has been a mosaic of the Mother of the Saviour. Next to it stands a free-standing bell tower with three bells.
