About Church of Our Lady of Fátima in Pawełki

A wooden log filial church, the former Chapel of St Hubert moved to Pawełki in 1956.

The filial Church of Our Lady of Fátima in Pawełki is a small wooden church in Kochanowice municipality. It stands on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesian Voivodeship.

A relocated chapel

The building was constructed as the Chapel of St Hubert beside the residence of Count Ballestrem in the Brzoza locality. In 1956 the local people bought the chapel from the state as firewood, took it to Pawełki and reassembled it on a private plot. It continued to serve a religious function, and in 1982 it was formally recognised as a filial church of the parish in Kochanowice. Today it belongs to the parish in Lubecko.

The building

The church has a log construction of round timbers, with prominent projecting log ends of varying length. It was built on a rectangular plan closed on three sides, and beside the chancel stands a small sacristy. The music choir, projecting beyond the outline of the nave, formed an arcade, which has been built in and today serves as a porch. The gable roof, covered with tiles, has a small turret.

Nearby

A visit to Pawełki can be combined with the church in Zborowskie, a little over 3 km away.
