Neo-Gothic parish church in Sosnowiec's Zagórze with two towers over 70 metres high, extended in 1898-1908.
The Church of St Joachim stands in Zagórze, a district of Sosnowiec, at ul. ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki 44. It is a Neo-Gothic parish church with two towers over 70 metres high, entered in the heritage register.
The first, single-nave church was built in 1848-1852 with funds from Countess Jadwiga Mieroszewska. In 1898-1908 a new three-nave body of the pseudo-basilica type was added, designed by the architect Józef Pomian-Pomianowski; the older building now serves as a porch. The extension, despite restrictions imposed by the tsarist authorities, was carried out by Father Józef Dutkiewicz. The extended church was consecrated on 15 August 1910.
The church contains works by the sculptor Paweł Turbas of Olkusz and an organ from 1902. Members of the Mieroszewski family rest in the crypt. The throne used by John Paul II during his pilgrimage in 1999 has also been preserved.
