About Church of St John the Baptist in Tychy

A parish church in Tychy built in 1958 in haste, with the work of the residents of Żwaków.

The Church of St John the Baptist in Tychy belongs to the Tychy Stare deanery of the Archdiocese of Katowice. It was built in 1958 in the estate of the former village of Żwaków, and its construction began before the authorities issued a permit.

Construction in 1958

The church was designed by the architect Zbigniew Weber of Miastoprojekt Nowe Tychy. Work began in January 1958 in the fields of the former village of Żwaków, and the permit was obtained only in July. Because of obstruction by the authorities, the construction, led by Father Jan Kapołka, was carried out in haste, thanks to the work of the residents of Żwaków and estate C and the help of the Tychy municipal building company. The church was consecrated on 21 December 1958, and the finishing of the interior lasted until the early 1960s. In 1982-1983 it was extended to a design by the same architect.
