A Neo-Romanesque brick parish church in Michałkowice from 1902-1904, designed by Ludwig Schneider of Opole.
A Neo-Romanesque parish church in Michałkowice, a district of Siemianowice Śląskie, built in the early 20th century of brick to a design by an architect from Opole. It stands on Kościelna Street and is the seat of the parish dedicated to St Michael the Archangel.
Construction began on 1 October 1902 and was completed in 1904. The design was prepared by Ludwig Schneider of Opole, and the cost was about 200,000 German marks. The consecration was performed on 12 June 1910 by the Bishop of Wrocław, Georg Kopp. The church is brick, Neo-Romanesque, on a Latin cross plan, with a semicircular apse and a gabled roof covered with tiles.
Originally the church had three altars, and in the main one a painting of St Michael by Julian Wałdowski, as well as stained glass, a font and four bells: Michał, Maria, Józef and Jan. After the Council reforms, in 1973, a large part of the old furnishings was removed, and the interior was arranged anew to a design by the Katowice architect Krystian Laski. Anyone who wants to see the present appearance of the altars and stained glass should check it on the spot.
