Late Baroque Church of St Nicholas (Mikołaszek) in Krzanowice from 1744, built as a votive offering of thanks.
The Church of St Nicholas in Krzanowice, popularly known as Mikołaszek, stands on ulica Raciborska in the north-eastern part of the town. It was built in 1744 on the site of a wooden church as a votive offering of thanks for saving the town from a Hungarian raid. It is a filial church of the parish of St Wenceslas, listed in the heritage register.
The earlier wooden church was mentioned in the will of the owner of Krzanowice from 1613 as the third church in the town. In 1762 the vault cracked and was replaced with a wooden ceiling, and in 1802 the ceiling was thoroughly rebuilt. In 1798-1807 a brick wall with four small chapels was erected around the church; it was pulled down in 1997, but the renovated gate has survived. A major renovation was carried out in 1988-1991.
The oriented Late Baroque building has a Neo-Gothic altar with Late Baroque figures of two bishops and a Neoclassical pulpit with a canopy crowned by a sculpture of a lamb. On the walls hang fourteen Stations of the Cross. The parish church, the Church of St Wenceslas, is less than a kilometre and a half away.
