About Church of St Peter and St Paul in Parzymiechy

Gothic parish church from the 14th-15th century, mentioned in 1460, in the 16th century an Arian and Calvinist meeting house.

The Church of St Peter and St Paul in Parzymiechy is a Gothic parish church built probably in the 14th or 15th century of brick and quarry stone. It is listed in the heritage register and was already mentioned in 1460.

History

From 1570 to 1598 the church served as an Arian meeting house, then a Calvinist one, and Catholics regained it in the mid-17th century. Around 1750 it was extended at the expense of the parish priest, and in 1875 the nave was lengthened and today's tower was built. During the Second World War the Germans burnt Parzymiechy, and the church was damaged and plundered. Restoration was carried out in 1934-1935 and after the war.

Architecture

The chancel, square in plan, has a cross-ribbed vault, and Gothic portals from the 15th century have survived in the church. The high altar is Late Baroque, from about 1760, with a painting of the Transfiguration. The side altars from 1783 are in the Rococo style.
