The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in the Biertułtowy district, which is the centre of present-day Radlin. It is the parish church of the Niedobczyce deanery of the Archdiocese of Katowice, Neo-Baroque in style, with towers 56 metres high.

How the church came about

The church was built in 1926-1928 to a design by Jan Affa of Racibórz. It was blessed on 7 October 1928 by Father Chancellor Jan Skrzypczyk and consecrated on 3 October 1971 by the Bishop of Katowice, Herbert Bednorz.

On 1 December 1983 the interior was destroyed by a fire caused by arson. On 3 October 1986 Bishop Damian Zimoń consecrated a new altar and blessed the decoration of the chancel, designed by the artist Zygmunt Brachmański.

Architecture

The church has five naves and can hold 4,500 worshippers. Inside stand side altars made by Franciszek Tolek of Pawłowice.
