Brick Gothic parish church in Staromieście in the municipality of Lelów, with a 14th-century sculpture of the Madonna and Child.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Staromieście is a brick parish church in the municipality of Lelów, in Częstochowa County. It was built of brick in the Gothic style, and the heritage register dates it to the 15th century.
A small brick church stood here as early as the 14th century. A fire in 1794 destroyed the building, which was rebuilt and repaired. The church was extended in 1877, and then in 1960-1970. The parsonage was renovated in 2006, and the church was given a new roof at that time. The building has been entered in the heritage register several times, most recently in 2022.
The church has a single nave and three altars. Among the oldest items are a stone sculpture of the Madonna and Child from the 14th century and a 17th-century painting of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Staromieście lies near Lelów, where the Church of St Martin and the synagogue can be visited.
