About Church of the Holy Spirit in Siemianowice Śląskie

A parish church in Siemianowice Śląskie-Bytków, built in 1977-1980, with stained glass, a pipe organ and a Way of the Cross.

The Church of the Holy Spirit stands on ulica Węglowa in the Siemianowice district of Bytków. It is a church from the end of the 1970s: construction began on 14 March 1977, and the consecration took place on 25 December 1980.

How the church in Bytków was built

Efforts to obtain permission to build a church for Bytków and the Tuwim housing estate began in 1973, and permission was issued on 17 September 1975. The Municipal Office twice rejected the development plan for the plot, and it was approved only on 6 January 1977. Work began on 14 March 1977, and the building permit was issued on 11 July that year.

The first Mass was held on 3 July 1978 in a temporary chapel. The foundation stone was laid on 17 December 1978 in the presence of the Bishop of Katowice, Herbert Bednorz. The construction was led by Father Konrad Zubel.

Architecture and furnishings

The church was designed by a team made up of Krystian Laske, Stefan Walendowski and Teodor Okoń. Three bells hang in the church: St John of Nepomuk, Our Lady of Częstochowa and St Stanislaus Kostka. The Way of the Cross was made by the sculptor Mirosław Kiciński of Bytków, the stained glass was designed by Anita Benish-Juda and made by the Glasini company of Chorzów. The pipe organ was built to a design by Krystian Laske.

The furnishings were added to over several decades. The tower was rebuilt in 1993-1995, the organ and the Way of the Cross were completed by 2000, and the stained glass was installed by 2006. The tower and facade have been renovated since 2012, and the renovation of the interior was completed in October 2013.
