Neo-Baroque parish church from 1921-1923 in Janów, with plaques commemorating a Home Army unit commander and victims of the war.
The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a parish church in Janów, belonging to the Żarki deanery of the Archdiocese of Częstochowa.
The present church was built in the neo-Baroque style in 1921-1923 to a design by the architect Wacław Nowakowski. The high altar and the pulpit, decorated with sculptures of three angels, have neo-Baroque features. The polychrome painting dates from the 1980s and replaced earlier paintings from the 1940s. The furnishings include, among other things, an 18th-century chalice and a monstrance from 1854.
Two plaques hang by the entrance. The first commemorates Captain Jerzy Kurpiński, commander of the Home Army unit “Ponury”. The second is dedicated to Father Leon Kuchta and the organist Władysław Misterek, killed by the Germans during the Second World War.
Less than a kilometre away, in Złoty Potok, stands the Raczyński Palace, and next to it the Zygmunt Krasiński Regional Museum.
