A Modernist church from 1929-1933 chosen in a competition, by the architect Zygmunt Gawlik, designer of the Katowice cathedral.
The Church of the Most Holy Trinity on Żwirki Street in Piekary Śląskie (the Szarlej district) was built in 1929-1933 in the Modernist style. The design was selected in a competition, and its author was the Kraków architect Zygmunt Gawlik, creator of the design of the Cathedral of Christ the King in Katowice.
The church has a plan close to a square, with a nave and a narrower chancel closed by a semicircular apse. Instead of a tower, an extended south massif stands at the opposite end of the building. A gable roof runs over the body and a hipped roof over the massif. The entry in the heritage register dates from 2015.
The interior is single-nave and of hall type. The central part has a ceiling raised relative to the ambulatory, and its pillars are octagonal. In the eastern part there is a gallery with a brick balustrade, and the church has three altars. The decor was made by Maciej Bieniasz of Katowice, and the structural engineers were Artur Allnoch of Świętochłowice and Konstantyn Gabryś of Katowice.
About 1.1 km from the church stands the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Bartholomew, the main shrine church of Piekary Śląskie.
