About Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Przystajń

A brick, single-nave church from 1752-1797 by the Market Square in Przystajń, listed in the heritage register.

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity stands by the Market Square (Rynek) in Przystajń, in Kłobuck County. It is a brick, single-nave late Baroque church with one tower, built in stages from 1752 to 1797. It is a monument listed in the register.

History of construction

The brick church was founded by Róża Zabicka, then owner of the estate, and completed by Antoni Paciorkowski of the Gryf coat of arms. The finishing of the interior took almost fifty years. The consecration was performed on 29 June 1923 by the Wrocław auxiliary bishop Władysław Krynicki. In the 1920s, under the parish priest Adam Żora, the church was thoroughly restored, and further renovations were carried out in 1951-1953 and later, among others a granite floor was laid, the chancel was lined with marble and stained-glass windows were installed.

Architecture and furnishings

The building has a single nave and a narrower chancel on the east, and next to the tower one turret for the bell. The interior is divided by Tuscan pilasters on which a cross-and-barrel vault rests. The nave is separated from the chancel by a wavy Rococo rood beam, with sculptures of the Crucified, Our Lady of Sorrows and St John the Evangelist.

The gilded high altar holds a painting of the Holy Trinity and figures of the four Evangelists. In the two side altars there are images of St Valentine, St Roch and Our Lady of Częstochowa. The pulpit has wooden figures of the Evangelists moved from the original wooden church, and the cast-iron font was cast in 1882 at the ironworks in Kuźnica Stara.
