About Church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist in Orzesze

A parish church in Jaśkowice, Orzesze, consecrated in 1936, rebuilt after a roof fire in 2013 and consecrated again in 2015.

The Church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist stands in the Orzesze district of Jaśkowice and belongs to the Orzesze deanery of the Archdiocese of Katowice. It is a parish church built in the 1930s, and in 2013 it was rebuilt after a roof fire.

Construction in the 1930s

The agreement to buy a 3-hectare plot from the estate administration of Count Tiele-Winckler was signed on 31 August 1932. In August 1934 the parish council in Dębieńsko agreed to the building of a branch church in Jaśkowice. Construction lasted two years, and the consecration was performed on 22 November 1936 by Monsignor Karol Skupin, official of the bishop's court. A high altar with a statue of John the Baptist was placed in the chancel.

The roof fire and rebuilding

On the night of 14 to 15 January 2013 the roof of the church burned down completely. More than 30 fire brigade units from Mikołów County and the surrounding area took part in the firefighting. The rebuilt church was consecrated on 17 January 2015 by the auxiliary bishop of Katowice, Marek Szkudło.
