A modernist parish church from 1935 in Bykowina, built on a hill 296 m above sea level.
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus stands in Bykowina, a district of Ruda Śląska, on the highest hill in the area. It is a modernist parish church of the Kochłowice deanery of the Archdiocese of Katowice, built within four months in 1935.
The church was designed by the diocesan builder Jan Affa. It stands on a so-called skałka (rocky knoll), at an altitude of 296 m above sea level. The building has three naves, is pseudo-hall in type, with a four-bay nave body. The naves are separated by simple masonry piers on a square plan, which on the second level support the side galleries. In the western part, across the full width of the body, there is a masonry music choir supported on four pillars.
The whole church has the form of a stark mass, built up by adding cubic forms. The façades are plastered and have very modest detail: a plinth clad in quarry stone and a profiled crowning cornice. The façade is strictly symmetrical, and on its axis the tower dominates.
