Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Rybnik-Niedobczyce

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Niedobczyce, a district of Rybnik, is a neo-Baroque brick church built in 1920-1921 with a large contribution from local residents. It was entered in the heritage register in 2023.

Construction

The design was prepared by Jan Schlichta of Wrocław, and Karol Wilczek supervised the construction. The residents of Niedobczyce threw themselves into the work so wholeheartedly that before the winter of 1921 the church already had a roof and vault. The dedication took place on 14 November 1921, and the consecration was performed on 9 June 1931 by Bishop Stanisław Adamski.

Architecture and furnishings

The church has a single tower and a single nave with a transept, and three altars inside. The main altar was made by the Rybnik sculptor Kajzer, and the side altars, confessionals, font and pulpit by Franciszek Follek of Pawłowice. The paintings in the altars were painted by Otto Kowalewski and Baendel of Łąka. In the naves stand figures of saints, and the interior has stained glass and decorated chandeliers and wall lamps. The present decor was designed by the engineer Stanisław Konarzewski junior.

In the choir loft is a 26-stop pipe organ from 1935, built by Walenty Klimosz and Jan Dyrszlag, with two manuals, a pedalboard and a pneumatic action. The white neo-Baroque case has three small towers and gilded decoration with acanthus motifs.
