About Church of the Saviour in Żory

A modernist Evangelical Augsburg church from 1929-1931, designed by the Eras brothers, entered in the heritage register.

The Church of the Saviour on Osińska Street in Żory is a modernist Lutheran church built in 1929-1931. The design was made by the brothers Hubert and Henryk Eras of Wrocław. The church is entered in the heritage register.

Construction and later history

The foundation stone was consecrated in August 1929, and the finished church in March 1931, when it was given the dedication of the Saviour. In 1945 the building was unlawfully taken over by Catholics. Thanks to the efforts of Rev. Jan Karpecki, a court restored the church and property to the parish in 1950, and it was reconsecrated in August 1951.

Architecture and furnishings

The church has a single nave and one tower. It was built of brick in a modernist style with Neo-Baroque elements, and the interior has Art Deco features. The organ was built in 1930 by the Rieger firm as Opus 2467; it has 18 stops, two manuals and a pedalboard.
