A former neo-Gothic Evangelical church in Zawiercie, since its post-war reconstruction a Crafts House.
The former Evangelical church in the centre of Zawiercie is a brick building in the neo-Gothic style which, since its post-war reconstruction, has served as a Crafts House. Today it is hard to recognise it as a church, but its mass and pointed-arch forms betray its original purpose.
The heritage register gives 1880-1887 as the time of construction, while other sources indicate the turn of 1898 and 1899. Permission for the building was issued by the governor of the Piotrków Governorate, and the land for the church was bought. Pastors from Łódź, Piotrków Trybunalski and Warsaw took part in the dedication. From 1911 or 1912 the Zawiercie church was a branch of the parish in Częstochowa, and in 1924 an independent Evangelical parish was established here.
During the Second World War the church was destroyed. After the war the building was bought by the Guild of Miscellaneous Crafts, the reconstruction lasted from 1956 to 1957, and the new owner set up a Crafts House in it. During the rebuilding the tower was pulled down and the interior was divided by a floor into two storeys, which is why from the outside the church looks more modest than originally.
Nearby stands the Collegiate Basilica of Sts Peter and Paul the Apostles, so both churches can be seen on a single walk around the centre.
