About "Fra Angelico" Gallery in Katowice

A contemporary art gallery on Jordana street in Katowice, founded in 1986 at the Diocesan Museum.

The “Fra Angelico” Gallery presents contemporary painting and has operated in Katowice without a break since 1986. It is located at Henryka Jordana 39, right next to the Cathedral of Christ the King in Katowice.

Where it came from

The gallery was founded in 1986 by Father Jerzy Myszor, then director of the Diocesan Museum in Katowice. It grew out of the “Gołębnik” gallery, active since 1983. During martial law it was a venue for independent cultural initiatives and for conversations between the Church and artistic circles.

What goes on here

The gallery is associated with the national biennial “Wobec Wartości” (Facing Values), a fine-art printmaking competition begun in 1986. Artists from Poland, Germany and Belarus, among others, have exhibited here.
