A sculpture of a gwarek (miner) from 2024 by Karolina Piechota, part of a city series of miner figures.
The gwarek (miner) figure in Lasowice, in Tarnowskie Góry, stands at the junction of Andersa and Leśna streets. It was unveiled on 4 December 2024, and its author is Karolina Piechota.
It is part of a cycle of gwarek sculptures, that is, miners, unveiled at various places in Tarnowskie Góry every year since 2013. The cycle refers to the mining history of the town, and each figure has a different author and its own place in the town or a district. The cycle comprises 13 sculptures. The first, designed by Norbert Jastalski, was unveiled in September 2013 at the corner of Krakowska and Tylna streets during the Gwarki festival: it is 1.6 m tall and shows a miner leaving a gallery after a shift, holding a small mining lamp. The Lasowice sculpture was the twelfth in the series.
