Hill 319 Strongpoint

The Hill 319 strongpoint is one of the sectors of the Silesia Fortified Area, located within Ruda Śląska. The fortifications closed the roads leading out of Zabrze and formed a group of bunkers scattered along today's aleja Rodziny Gürtlerów.

What made up the strongpoint

The combat bunkers were equipped with armoured cupolas and half-cupolas and with positions for guns and machine guns. Deeper inside were reinforced barracks and an ammunition store. The site also appears under the name Hill 319 - Nowy Bytom.

Heritage protection

The individual bunkers were entered in the heritage register separately. In 2020 protection was extended to heavy combat bunker no. 31 and flanking bunker no. 32 in the area of Cynkowa Street. In 2022 bunkers no. 30 on Bukowa Street, no. 23 on the south side of the Czarniawka river and no. 25 were entered, and in 2024 a former bunker on 1 Maja Street. The entries themselves concern designated plots, so the bunkers stand in several places rather than as a single structure.
