A historic Jewish cemetery from the 18th century in Kromołów, with about 920 surviving matzevot.
The Jewish cemetery in Kromołów, a district of Zawiercie, lies on Piaskowa Street and is one of the oldest surviving Jewish cemeteries in this part of the Jura. It was founded in the 18th century, and the oldest surviving gravestones date from the middle of that century. The site is entered in the heritage register.
On an area of about half a hectare about 920 matzevot have survived, that is, Jewish stone gravestones. The inscriptions are in Hebrew, Yiddish and Polish, which reflects changes in the community that buried its dead here. The grounds are surrounded by a masonry fence, and a pre-burial house stands in the cemetery.
The cemetery was entered in the heritage register in 1967, and the entry was renewed in 2024. In the area, a visit can be combined with other places in Zawiercie, for example with the Jewish cemetery in Zawiercie.
