Replica from 2006 of the monument to the poet Joseph von Eichendorff in Racibórz-Brzezie, at the edge of a forest.
The monument to Joseph von Eichendorff stands in Brzezie, a district of Racibórz, at the edge of the Widok forest. The present monument was unveiled on 6 May 2006 as a replica of the first one, from 1907.
The original was unveiled on 26 November 1907, on the 50th anniversary of the poet's death. It was made of red granite and weighed 21-23 tonnes. The stone came from a pond near Pogrzebień. The inscription read in German: “Dem Sänger des Waldes Joseph Freiherrn von Eichendorff Hohenbirken 26 XI 1907”. The monument was destroyed by local residents in the autumn of 1945.
The city council initially rejected the reconstruction project in 2003 and approved it in 2005. The replica weighs 7 tonnes.
