An 1890 church in Halemba with rosary frescoes on the ceiling from 1950-1952.
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary stands in Halemba, a district of Ruda Śląska, and belongs to the Kochłowice deanery of the Archdiocese of Katowice. The church was consecrated on 29 September 1890, and in the 20th century the interior was rebuilt several times.
The foundation stone was blessed on 23 June 1889. A year later the building work, plastering and floors were finished, and a high altar with a painting of Our Lady, Queen of the Holy Rosary, was placed in the chancel. The consecration was performed, in place of Bishop Georg Kopp, by the dean of the Bytom deanery, the parish priest of Bielszowice. In 1891 the faithful of Halemba and the surrounding area furnished the interior: pews, pulpit, confessionals, stained-glass windows in the chancel and a font. The organ was donated by the parish of Bielszowice, and in 1892 the Labryga family funded the Stations of the Cross and two side altars.
In 1950-1952 an artist from Bytom, Denke, painted 15 frescoes of the mysteries of the rosary on the wooden ceiling. The new high altar was made by the Rybnik artist Franciszek Masorz and was consecrated in 1953. In the 1960s galleries and two side chapels, of Divine Mercy and of the Holy Cross, were added, and the side altars and the old pulpit were removed.
