About Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Poraj

A parish church from 1936-1939, extended after the war, with a tower added later.

The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Poraj is the parish church of the Roman Catholic parish of the same name. It was built in the mid-1930s and was later extended several times.

Construction and extensions

The church was built through the efforts of the parish priest of the parish of St John the Baptist in Choroń. The foundation stone was blessed by Bishop Antoni Zimniak on 26 April 1936, and the finished building was blessed in 1939.

In 1947-1948 a sacristy and a balcony above the main entrance were added. In 1957, among other work, a marble altar was made, and the church was consecrated on 22 September 1957 by Bishop Zdzisław Goliński. Later the high altar was rebuilt and a tower was added.
