Reservoir on the Warta in Poraj from 1978, with an area of up to 5.5 km2.
Lake Poraj, also known as the Poraj Reservoir, is an artificial reservoir on the Warta south-west of Poraj. It was created in 1978 to serve the steelworks in Częstochowa.
The reservoir covers a maximum of 5.5 km2, is about 4.9 km long and up to 1.4 km wide. The shoreline is about 15 km long, and the capacity reaches about 25 million m3 of water.
The maximum depth is 13 metres, the average 3.9 metres. The dam in Poraj was built on the Warta, and by the water a holiday and water sports centre was built for employees of the Częstochowa steelworks.
In Poraj itself stands the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, about 3 km from the lake. About 5 km further on is the observation tower in Choroń.
