Parish church in Zabrze-Guido, fitted out in 1931 in a rebuilt inn, with 17th-century altars from a former wooden church.
The Church of St Anthony in Zabrze-Guido is a parish church of the Diocese of Gliwice. It did not begin as an ordinary church: it is a rebuilt former inn, which in 1931 was blessed for church use.
At first a large church was planned, but the neighbouring parishes of St Andrew and St Francis were building churches of their own, so adaptation was chosen. The rebuilding plans were drawn up by master mason Henryk Jambork. The inn's hall was made into the chancel and sacristy, and a new nave was added. The whole was designed so that the building could in future return to secular use if a new church were built.
St Anthony, patron of the poor, was chosen as patron. Adaptation work began in 1930. In 1931 the parish of St Andrew donated to the church 17th-century altars from the former wooden parish church. The new church was blessed on 25 June 1931 by Bishop Walenty Wojciech. In 1937 the local church was raised to an independent curacy, and in 1945 it became a parish.
