Neo-Romanesque brick parish church on Wolności Street in Chorzów, blessed in 1874 and extended in 1908.
St Hedwig of Silesia's Church on Wolności Street is a three-aisled brick church in the Neo-Romanesque style. Construction began in the spring of 1873, and the blessing took place on 18 October 1874.
The foundation stone was blessed on 22 June 1873. In 1908 the church was extended: two rear towers, a portal house and an organ gallery were added. The author of the extension, the façades and the interior furnishings was Ludwig Schneider. The façades are covered with multicoloured plaster, bas-reliefs and interlace ornaments.
The high altar was made of polished white marble, with a figure of St Hedwig and kneeling angels; the canopy rests on marble pillars of a dark yellow colour. During the First World War the tin organ pipes were melted down for ammunition, and a new, larger organ was bought in 1925.
From the church it is less than a kilometre to the Teatr Rozrywki and a kilometre and a half to the Prezydent Shaft. A longer walk leads to the Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park.
