A neo-Gothic brick church from 1853-1857 in Zabrze-Biskupice, founded by the Ballestrem family, with their crypt under the floor.
St John the Baptist's Church in Zabrze-Biskupice is a neo-Gothic brick church, the oldest religious building in Zabrze. It was built in 1853-1857 and consecrated on 11 November 1863. It is listed in the heritage register.
The church was founded by the Ballestrem family, and beneath the floor lies their burial crypt. Today it is a parish church.
The plan is a Latin cross, and the chancel ends in a three-sided apse. On the axis of the façade stands a tall tower, square at the bottom and octagonal higher up, with a stone spire decorated with crockets and finials. A ridge turret rises at the crossing of the nave and transept. The elevations are unplastered, reinforced by buttresses, with an arcade frieze under the eaves and a high plastered plinth.
